My 4Runner was having random issues that I couldn’t live with anymore, so I traded it in for a new Tacoma. I got almost what I paid for the 4Runner for the trade in, and a great discount on this 2020 Tacoma Off Road with some dealer installed mods. 3” Icon lift, Icon wheels with 285 tires, ditch lighting, and some other small upgrades.

On the plus side, in 4 years you can sell it privately with only 3K in depreciation.

Want to know this as well. Thought they were practically bulletproof

Nice. I love it...most dealers seem to have a problem with restraint when they start modifying trucks. It’s always some terrible wheel choice and black on black and dark tint and some cheap Chinese bumper and auxiliary lights.

The lemon dealer that sold Jordan’s GTI has a bunch of buyback Toyota’s, mainly Tacoma’s. There’s a 4Runner in there, too. No reason for the buyback, though.

The head unit kept rebooting while driving and Toyota couldn’t find a fix for it, the Headlights and interior lights kept flickering randomly even after the bulbs were changed repeatedly, and there was a weird shimmy that the car had anytime I went over 65mph.
Nothing that was a deal breaker for ownership , but since I was able to get a massive discount because of my relationship with Toyota, it made more sense to just get the Tacoma and trade in my 4R.

Fortunately the dealer wasn’t responsible for the mods here, they farm it out to a local install shop that I’ve had some experience with and really like.

Bummer, although I wouldn’t want to live with flickering lights and a rebooting head unit either. I had a small shimmy after upgrading the suspension, an alignment resolved that, though.

the dealership tried an alignment, they replaced the wheels/tires, and the front suspension. Still couldn’t figure it out.

As trucks and SUVs become more popular, they’ve been making them more car like and luxury centered. Pretty stark contrast even between my early ‘00s truck and what you see now. ‘90s and early ‘00s was peak Toyota, unless you live somewhere rusty.
